The Story

“EVERY DAY IS A NEW
ADVENTURE”

If there’s one thing that stands out to Kara Council, it’s doors — including those she’s personally photographed during her travels all over the world. “Every door has a distinct personality, a narrative,” she says. “Everything starts at the door.”

But abodes’ entrance-ways aren’t Kara’s sole design focus. Her work is anchored in meaningful details that tell a story and more specifically, the ability to create spaces that host memorable moments. Although her career path didn’t formerly commence with home design, Kara’s love for interiors and architecture dates back to childhood.

Her early interest in homes and design serendipitously led Kara to dedicate years of creative experience with Williams Sonoma Inc within the Pottery Barn and West Elm brands. Her days involved traveling the world, curating home spaces, as a buyer, and styling photo shoots. Next, she veered into other artistic and expressive industries, working with The RealReal, Stylus, a U.K. based platform, Kenneth Cole as Chief Brand Officer, and running a family office.

Kara’s admiration for shelter personalization and exploration never faded, and when a life-changing event inspired Kara to shift her perspective, she realized where her passions and identity lie. “What I love is home, interiors and design,” she says of the epiphany that led her back, full circle to dwellings. Embarking on her first project — an interior and exterior gut renovation in sunny Boca Raton, Fla. — solidified her dreams. “I couldn’t have been happier, spending my time doing something I love with purpose.”

From that point, the design collective Council Creative was born with the goals to collaboratively create experiences within spaces and put clients’ needs first. This sentiment, Kara’s unconventional approach, and her professional journey are reflected in her mantra. “Every day is a new adventure,” she says. “I’ve lived through things that I’ve been told I wouldn’t. I wake up wanting to experience every day, be a kind human and create meaningful moments.”

When she isn’t designing and planning spaces, Kara’s “happy place” is doing Pilates. She also enjoys traveling or simply exploring something new in New York City, where she resides with her Pomeranian, Puff.
